Choosing a man’s watch

Whether you’re buying a gift for a loved one, or looking for a watch for yourself, there’s a few things you need to consider when making you choice. Watch movements are a term you’ll see a lot and there’s three types you’ll need to know about; mechanical, automatic and quartz.  Mechanical watches are wound up by hand and as they tick they unwind.  You won’t need to worry about replacing a battery, but you will need to make sure your watch is wound. Automatic watches work in the same way as mechanical watches, but you don’t need to wind the watch yourself, they do it automatically as you wear them. If you’re not wearing the watch however you will need a watch winder, to keep it ticking. Quartz watches require a battery instead. Make sure you have a look at the movement types when choosing a watch.

A man’s watch should also be based on style. Different watches were designed for different scenarios so you will note when looking at the products how their qualities vary. A dress watch tends to be more subtle and smart. They are quite thin and narrow to make them easier to wear with long sleeve shirts. Leather straps are also common. Field watches have a leather or canvas strap and are small to medium. They tend to be practical so contain numerical dials with a plain watch face. Dive watches tend to be medium size, have Arabic numbering and more than likely have a metal strap. They have more of a striking style and are perhaps the best option if you want something more standout. They are also waterproof as they were designed with divers in mind. Driving watches have a large dial, a stainless-steel case and are often bright and bold. Driving watches were designed to help racing car drivers tell the time so they’re exceptionally durable.  A pilot watch is designed for easy reading so has a large dial and tends to have white dials on a black face. This makes them useful for dark environments when checking the time is perhaps not as easy. Consider your use of the watch when making your choice.

Choosing a Ladies Watch

You will find a variety of different styles to choose from in our selection, but appearance is only one factor you need to consider when choosing a woman’s watch. Consider the purpose of the watch and how the individual plans to wear it. For example, if you or the recipient plans on wearing the watch on a day to day basis, you may want to opt for something more subtle than a dress watch. Dress watches tend to have diamonds and a metal strap and while they’re stylish and statement, this may not be the right style for someone who plans to wear the watch while doing activities such as walking, running, etc. In this instance you may want to look at sports watches as their characteristics adhere better to that setting. Sports watches tend to have a rubber band and an easy to read watch face. Other types of watches you may want to consider are casual watches, which feature a large watch face and a leather band – ideal for daily use, or fashion watches, in which a bracelet replaces the traditional strap choice.

Aside from the style, you should also consider the movement. Quartz watches are powered by batteries, so you will need to replace them when the watch stops ticking. Automatic and mechanic need to be wound in order to work with the difference between the two being that mechanical watches need winding manually and automatic watches wind themselves while you wear them. The movement type will determine how much you need to do in order to keep them working so should be considered carefully.

We have a wide selection of women’s watches available to purchase online so you will be sure to find something to suit your needs,  whatever your preference.

History of Rolex

Rolex watches were born after Hans Wilsdorf, who opened a company in London in 1905, dreamed of wearing a watch on the wrist. Wristwatches weren’t too reliable at the time, so Hans sought to make his watches precise, so the public could rely on their accuracy. In 1910 it was a Rolex watch that received the first certificate of chronometric precision. As time progressed Rolexes became renowned for their accuracy. In regards to the name itself, Hans wanted to find something that was “short, easy to say and remember in any language”. He combined letters of the alphabet randomly creating new words, but Rolex was the named he eventually opted for. As they paved the way for wristwatches,  Rolex also became famed for being the first brand to create the waterproof and dustproof wristwatch in 1926. They claimed their Oyster watch was waterproof and in 1927 a swimmer proved its claim when she swam with the watch on her wrist across the English Channel. Over the years Rolex have continued to pave the way for excellent and ground-breaking wristwatches which is why they are known today as one of the most famous watchmakers. If you’re looking for a luxury designer watch, you can’t go wrong with a Rolex. Their history, creativity and passion for their trade stands out today. Our range contains a broad range of their models from over the years, so you can find some truly remarkable gems in our selection.

Types of Bracelets

It’s important when looking for a bracelet, you understand the different options you have to choose from. There are key differences between bangles and bracelets, as you’ll learn below but there are also various bracelet options.

Bangles – Bangles tend to be solid pieces that have a ring shape.  They are more fitted pieces that grip your arm as opposed to flowing freely over the wrist. You can get partial bangles, that are like a cuff and where the ends don’t quite come together. You can also get full bangles which normally have two piece that are hinged together.

Bracelets – Bracelets tend to have multiple links and they tend to dangle from your wrist. They are looser and have different types of fittings. The types also vary as there is a few different style options.

Tennis Bracelets are thin bracelets that feature a neat pattern of diamonds or stones. They are the most stylish and glamorous type of bracelet – ideal for special occasions.

Charm Bracelets are collectable items that feature various charms and items that hold special meaning to that individual. Charm bracelets can be quite heavy but they’re a special item of jewellery to the beholder and can be worn on a daily basis.

Chain Bracelets contain multiple loops, and can come in various colours and weights. Chain bracelets suit both men and women and are ideal for daily use.

Link bracelets can look very similar to chain bracelets, but they are made from joining different links of jewellery. You may find a combination of different types of metals available when looking at link bracelets.

Women’s Bracelets

Women have a broader range of bangle and bracelet options. Tennis bracelets pair well with dresses and skirts for an elegant evening look but chain bracelets look great for a day to day look.

Men’s Bracelets

Men tend to wear either a chain or link bracelet, however some cuffs or bangles can also pair well. Bracelets work in a similar way to a wristwatch, adding sophistication and class to an outfit. They look best paired with smarter outfits such as jeans and a jumper or a suit.

How and where to wear brooches?

Brooches come in a variety of styles and can be teamed with a variety of outfits. If you’re planning on wearing them to an occasion, we’d recommend you opt for a diamond brooch with a plain dress. The brooch will add the sparkle you need to shine and stand out at your event. For a day look, brooches can be worn on a jumper or blouse. Again, the top should be quite subtle, so the brooch stands out. Brooches can be a stunning workwear addition; people often wear them on the left-hand breast of their top however they are also becoming increasingly popular collar additions.

For a day to day look, many opt to wear brooches on the lapel of their coat. This is the traditional way of wearing brooches and probably still the most common. Wearing brooches on the breast of your clothes,  as described above, is a modern style statement but wearing them on coats is a lasting fashion that has never faded.

Diamond brooches undoubtedly add class and elegance to an outfit,  however more elaborate designs are also available for the adventurous fashionista. You will find sapphire pieces and 18k gold unique designs that will help you make a style statement. In regards to the shape and design of the brooch; butterfly, dragonfly and flower brooches are the most desired styles people tend to look for. Unique brooch designs with stunning details can be difficult to uncover which is why a lot of people search for antique and vintage designs. Our second-hand brooches are exactly that, they are special items we’ve used our expertise to uncover for you.
